James Alton Lee

James Alton Lee, born April 4th, 1934 went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 2, 2022. The Lord blessed him with 88 years. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Bowman Lee, his daughters Dale (Cas) McCurdy, Jan (Rusty) Yates, his grandchildren Meagan (Josh) Fryer, Morgan (Jason) Schultz, Matthew (Laken) McCurdy, and Mallory McCurdy. Great grandchildren: Maddie and Ryleigh Fryer, Allison and Ava Schultz, Stella and Ann McCurdy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard Whitman and Maylese Sullivan Lee, his son John Michael Lee, and his great-grandson Wells McCurdy. James accepted Christ as a young man of 16 and though he was not a perfect man he received the crown of life and amazing grace at 2:40PM on Friday, September 2 because Jesus was his Lord and Savior. The Lord stooped down to make him great according to Psalm 18:35. “You give me your shield of victory and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great.” He was a man of many witty remarks and stories and he loved spending time with his family. He brought his children up in the fear of the Lord and on Sunday mornings he took them to church. He was blessed with 23 years of retirement and was able to spend lots of time fishing. He caught the big one every time, of course. More importantly, he was a fisher of men for the Lord and he was known for his servant’s heart. He planted lots of tomatoes so he could share with his friends and family. He was blessed by the goodness of God all his life. The Lord was faithful to him and his family for his whole life. He stood on God’s precious promises even when he could not take another step. He fully accepted the Lord’s plan for his life during his final days and he miraculously chimed in with his family to sing Amazing Grace the day before God called him home. According to Psalm 139, James Alton Lee lived out every day ordained for him by the Lord. He has his brand-new body and his thumb is intact now. Today, this is his story, this is his song, praising his Savior all the day long. We loved every minute we had him and he will be dearly missed. “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:21) The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for all the words of encouragement from friends and family. We felt your prayers! A huge thank you to Baptist Hospice and each person they placed in our path. Each one of you is super special to our family. The Celebration of Life service will be held at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 1PM with Glenn Graham and Bryan Easley officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to East Memorial Baptist Church building fund. Pallbearers will be Matthew McCurdy, Jeff Lee, Cas McCurdy, Ken Lee, Josh Fryer, and Jason Schultz. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of East Memorial Baptist Church.
