Jean Countryman

COUNTRYMAN, JEAN, 81, resident of Prattville, AL was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 25, 2018. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church Prattville with visitation one hour prior. Dr. Travis Coleman and Reverend Dave Burns will officiate. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens with Prattville Memorial directing. Mrs. Countryman was born in Indianola, Mississippi on February 13, 1937. She grew up in Glen Allan and Arcola, Mississippi before moving to Greenville, Mississippi where she would meet the love of her life, Gary Countryman. Jean was a faithful and loving Air Force wife following her husband and making a loving home for their family in Louisiana, the Philippines, Wisconsin, and Mississippi before settling in Prattville, Alabama. Jean made a public profession of her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a young girl in Glen Allan, Mississippi. Jean was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Prattville, AL where she served her Lord and Savior as a Sunday School teacher and VBS worker. Together, she and Country participated in numerous mission trips sharing the gospel and helping build churches and homes in Brazil and throughout the U.S. Jean was a longtime employee of Hatton-Brown Publishers in Montgomery. For a very small woman in stature, she was made of steel. Outwalking neighbors and friends brought her much joy. Her homemade biscuits and lovingly prepared meals were enjoyed by all. She hosted many luncheons and dinners for family and friends. Her famous pecan pies and pound cakes will never be duplicated and will be missed so much. She will be forever missed by anyone who knew her. Mrs. Countryman was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Gary Nolan Countryman, their infant son, Randall Wayne Countryman, her parents Kathleen and Bruce Spears, father and mother-in law Clyde and Bertha Countryman, grandson John Hayden Countryman, sisters-in-law Louise Spears and Betty Sims, and brother-in-law Tommy Sims. She is survived by her son Cline (Cindy) Countryman of Prattville, Alabama and her daughter Tammy (Rusty) McDonald of Opelika, Alabama. Grandchildren Tyler Countryman, Jordan Countryman, Jessica (Brad) Henderson, Mary Catherine McDonald, and Heather (Gene) Willis. Great-grandchildren Caroline Willis, Curt Willis and James Henderson. Her brother, Robert “Sonny” Spears in Pelahatchie, Mississippi and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to her caregiver and friend Mrs. Sue Brodka and Dr. John Abrams and the staff at Bethany House in Auburn, Alabama. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in her memory to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at First Baptist Church Prattville.
