John Durwood Wilson

John Durwood Wilson, known by most as Durwood, 86, of Prattville, Alabama, was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. A devoted servant of the Lord, Durwood’s life was marked by his deep commitment to ministry, where he served through various channels, most notably with Carpenters for Christ, The Gideons International, and as both a Sunday school teacher and Deacon at Crestview Baptist Church and his beloved Camellia Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member for over 40 years. Durwood’s greatest joy in life was his family, whom he cherished deeply. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. His love for his family knew no bounds, and he will be forever remembered for the care and dedication he gave to those he held dear. Durwood was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 64 years, Patsy; his parents, Harvey and Mavis Wilson; and his son-in-law, Jeff Donaldson. He leaves behind two daughters, Sabrina Donaldson and Cindy Newton (Mike); five grandchildren, Rachel Arthur (Kenny), Ashley Locke (Jeff), Steven Newton (Summitt), Brandon Newton (Amy), and Tiffany Painter (Jeffery); eight great-grandchildren, with another on the way in May; his sister, Merlene Bruner; two nieces, three nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Prattville Memory Gardens. A viewing will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Camellia Baptist Church, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor James Taylor and Rev. Glenn Brock will officiate. Burial will follow at Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial directing. Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Newton, Brandon Newton, Kenny Arthur, Jeff Locke, Jeffery Painter, and Hunter Arthur. The family kindly requests memorial donations be made in Durwood’s name to The Gideons International (https://www.gideons.org/donate) or to Camellia Baptist Church (201 Woodvale Road, Prattville, AL 36067). Durwood’s legacy of faith, love, and service to others will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be greatly missed but forever loved.
