John Howard Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

HOWARD, John Wilson, 69, a resident of Prattville, AL, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 2, 2004, after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6, 2004, at 2:00 p.m., from St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with The Reverend Stephen DeGweck officiating. Burial will follow in Prattville Memory Gardens, with Prattville Memorial Chapel directing. Dr. Howard was a graduate of Sidney Lanier High School, Class of 1952, and was in the Sidney Lanier Marching Band. He earned a B. S. Degree from Auburn University; a Masters Degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee. He was an avid reader and a sports fan, following the Chicago Cubs and the Kentucky Wildcats. He honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force Security Service from 1955 - 1959 as a Vietnamese and Indonesian linguist. Following his military tour of duty, he was a Foreign Language Specialist with the State of Alabama Board of Education. He retired after 25 years of service. He is survived by his beloved spouse of 42 years, Ann Howard; one daughter, Katherine Adair, both of Prattville, AL; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Courtney Howard, Virginia Beach, VA, Quinn and Lisa Howard, Smyrna, GA; nine grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Bob Bryant, Marietta, GA; and several nephews and one niece. Pallbearers will be Bob Bent, Al Booth, John Dunbar, Glen Grant, Bob Gray and Jim Massey. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be sent to the Autauga-Prattville Public Library, 254 Doster Street, Prattville, AL 36067. The family will receive friends at Prattville Memorial Chapel on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
