Ursula Sauer Fladung

Ursula Sauer Fladung, lovingly known by many as MeMa, passed peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the age of 94. Born on June 30, 1931, in Fulda, Germany, Ursula was raised with the strength, resilience, and determination that would define her life. In 1955, she immigrated to the United States to join her husband, Hugo Frederick Fladung, who had also immigrated from Germany and proudly served in the United States Air Force. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and hard work. In 1970, the family moved to Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, settling in Prattville, where they made their home for many years. Ursula was the heart of her family - the kind of woman who made sure everyone else was taken care of before herself. She was tough as nails, fiercely Independent, hardworking, and deeply loving. Her family knew her as a steady presence, a source of comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love. She is survived by her children: Delbert Fladung (Sherlene Dyes), Denise Fladung Gilmore (Tommy), and Kevin Fladung (Laurie Wotus). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Robin Fladung Smith, Laci Fladung Brown, Taylor Fladung, Haley Gilmore Riley (Reid), Jacob Gilmore (Marissa Akers), Hope Gilmore Reynolds (Jason), Heidi Gilmore Chafin (Austin), Katie Fladung, Nellie Fladung Waite (Jonathan), Gabriel Fladung (Kelli), Sophie Fladung; and a cherished great-grandmother to: Parker Smith, Jordan, Alac, Jack, and Brison Brown, Ezekiel and Noelle Forman, Hutton and Hadlee Riley, Adeline, Raemi, and Scout Gilmore, Eleanor and Cooper Waite, Charlotte and Amelia Fladung. She is preceded in death by her precious great-granddaughter, Lucy Cate Riley, whose memory remained close to her heart. Ursula dedicated many years to her work as a seamstress at Prattville Apparel, where her strong work ethic and skill were evident to all who knew her. Even in retirement, her servant’s heart remained active. She found great joy caring for children through Mother’s Day Out, where her nurturing spirit touched countless young lives. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Ursula was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she treasured her time with the church’s seniors’ group, gathering each Monday for fellowship. She also loved to travel, and one of her greatest blessings was returning in 2019 to her hometown of Fulda and to visit her only surviving sibling and his wife in Petersberg, Germany, a reunion she deeply cherished. To know Ursula is to know unwavering strength wrapped in deep compassion. She was the family caretaker, the one who showed up, worked hard, and loved fiercely. Her legacy lives on in the family she adored and the countless lives she touched through her kindness and faith. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
